Your best friend comes to town, and a get-together is in the works. The meeting will take place at your favorite restaurant. You haven’t seen your friend in months. Who can compete with overseas travel and vacationing at company expense? But now your friend is waiting for you in the parking lot. You’re energized to see this friend.

You pull into the lot and jump out of the car. You run quickly to say hi. Your friend hurriedly waves, then turns away, showing you only the backside of a head attached to a cell phone. You realize that your friend is deep in conversation with another so-called friend of yours, the one who didn’t invite you to that big-time party last week. You heard the whole neighborhood was there.

Your friend gets off the phone and tells you several more are joining the fun. They’ll be here in five minutes. Well it takes twenty minutes, but your friend doesn’t mind the wait. After all, that’s enough time for three more calls, while you just stand around waiting in the parking lot. Finally, everyone arrives. The group is so large that somebody suggests a new meeting place. Your friend is enthusiastic, and it’s decided before you get to say anything.

Your head is spinning. You get in your car, but as you shoot off to the new location your head starts to throb. Is your friend more interested in parties than in you? What just happened? What planet are you living on anyway? You want out, but you can’t just fly away. There’s no escape!
